I had the privilege to talk, in general, with a Police Constable when I’d gone to lodge an FIR.
And I learnt a lot of things that I didn’t know about policemen….
- They work 12 hours a day, in shifts. The police station remains open 24 hours a day, though.
- They’ve one weekly off. It’s not any fixed day of the week.
- They get ‘meager’ wages
- They don’t get TA/DA i.e. Travelling/Petrol/Daily Allowance.. That means if investigation requires travelling, fuel and food expenses don’t get reimbursed.
- They get free travel by train though, for investigation.
- Every case is assigned to a person by his boss, and that becomes his task.
- Small tip on Ranks of policemen
- Three stars: Police Inspector
- Two stars: Sub-Inspector of Police
- One Star: Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police
- You can find detailed info about police ranks here.
- The Police Inspector doesn’t have a fixed timing as he has several cases under him. And he has to visit several places as part of investigation.
